Well, the prism that you're talking about is an octagonal. If you look at the relationship between the number of vertices, you see that there's a pattern. If you have six vertices, you subtract one to get the number of faces. From there, you would add four to get your edges. With 8 vertices, you'd do the same thing except that instead of subtracting just one, you'd subtract two for the number of faces, then add not four but six to get your edges. For ten vertices, you'd subtract three for the faces and add eight for the edges.
