They also gave a seminar and had the opportunity to meet with student advocates for diversity, equity, and inclusion. June 2019 Evolution 2019 Majorie represented Project Biodiversify at the diversity tabling event at the Society for the Study of Evolution 2019 annual meeting Biology on Tap Sarah Jones gave a talk at Biology on Tap in Lansing discussing the importance of inclusive and accurate education for sex and gender-related topics with an emphasis on sexual selection May 2019 Organization for the Study of Sex Differences Conference Ash attended the Organization for the Study of Sex Differences conference in Washington DC! April 2019 University of Idaho Alex Webster and Ash Zemenick met with University of Idaho’s Inclusion Diversity and Equality Alliance (IDEA) over zoom to talk about the importance of diverse and inclusive teaching methods in biology. Northern Kentucky University Alex Webster, Ash Zemenick, and Sarah Jones visited Northern Kentucky University to present in their series “Science and Society: Professional Development Series for An Inclusive Classroom” March 2019 Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography Alex Webster gave a talk at the Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography (ASLO) annual Meeting in Puerto Rico! Her talk was entitled “Project Biodiversify: a repository of teaching materials and methods to make biological and natural science classrooms more inclusive” November 2018 Michigan State University’s Kellogg Biological Station’s K-12 Teaching Workshop Sarah Jones and Ash Zemenick had so much fun leading a workshop for K-12 educators on inclusive and accurate methods for teaching sex and gender-related topics in biology. May 2018 Workshop at the 2018 Society for Freshwater Science Meeting in Detroit, MI March 2017 Project Biodiversify secured its initial funding from the National Science Foundation! Ash Zemenick was awarded NSF’s Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Biology – Broadening Participation of Groups Under-represented in Biology (award number 1708931) to work in Marjorie Weber’s lab at Michigan State University where they will research plant-mite-microbial ecology and develop Project Biodiversify.
