The key to solving a motivational problem is to find what gives that person pleasure and what gives that person pain emotionally. The trick is that all people are different and the triggers can be dramatically dis-simular. A simple motivational problem for a teenager could be not doing homework. One would have to find a good reason why it would be good to do it and conversly why it would be bad not to do it. Usually people will react more to the negative or bad reason but both play a part. Why do we work? We want to have shelter and food. The thought of not having it will give us motivation to work and the food will give us pleasure to work. But each person is different so tailor your approach to the person.
