Q + A with Autumn Casey How did you become interested in making art? It’s hard to pinpoint an exact time or place. I think my unique set of lived experiences sort of led me here, or I was subconsciously just trying to find this the whole time... You’ve said that you can relate to the silk worm and perhaps the silk worm is a metaphor for your practice? Explain please.. In my head I think about creating art as the domestic silkworm produces silk. It’s their primary reason for existence... How do you decide what object you’re going to make? There are various ways! I usually get a vision of something while working on another piece... What is the Florida art scene like? Miami or Fort Lauderdale? I would say the south Florida art scene in general has definitely been growing and expanding over the last decade... Tell us about your interest in tarot cards. You made a whole collage series about tarot cards. I first found out about tarot cards when I selected a deck during a white elephant Christmas party game... How do you get inspired? It's something like, by wishing really hard on a star. Inspiration comes from thinking long and deep about certain things... Animals like swans, turtles, and flamingos have been part of your muse. Do you have other animals in mind for future projects? I am always kind of looking at animals to gauge how I might turn them into a lamp... What are you working on now? Currently, I am working on two oversized butterfly lamps for an upcoming show I have this March with Mindy Solomon...
